Why I Write

Life is unpredictable. Who can confidently declare anything about the future?

My life has seen a marked evolution in communications technology. Beyond this, I can’t say much else has changed for the world at large. Because it is now possible for anyone in the world to access my thoughts at any moment, I had best capture them and put them in a place where they will potentially be discovered.

I’m reminded of the Voyager probe, and the gold-plated record that it holds onto. Or the time capsule from my youth, the time and place of which I have forgotten entirely. I leave this record here as a way of making my mark on the world. If it is discovered, I hope that its contents prove valuable to at least one other soul.

At least I can say that, for all the harm I’ve done, I produced something intelligible.
